As part of the ongoing rehabilitation work on the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge over Rock Creek and Rock Creek Parkway, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has implemented a detour of westbound Pennsylvania Avenue traffic (as of May 2). This detour is expected to remain in place approximately 7 months. Westbound traffic will be detoured onto 2.

Street NW to M Street NW while two lanes of eastbound traffic will continue across the bridge throughout the duration of the detour. Pedestrian and bike traffic will continue to use one side of the bridge during construction, and Rock Creek Park Trail will remain open at all times. The detour is necessary for repair work on the bridge.

The work includes repairs on the structural features, replacing the center span deck and rehabilitating the outer two spans, repaving, repairing sidewalks and curbs, restoring the masonry façade and upgrading existing street lighting.
